The Expanding Spaces for Women’s Political Participation in Kenya project is aimed at strengthening the capacity of women leaders in seven focus counties: Kisii, Homabay, Embu, Samburu, Kericho, Wajir, and Kajiado. Uraia Trust is implementing this program with support from UN Women and Global Affairs Canada (GAC). The project aims to improve women leaders’ ability to participate in politics and decision-making, advocate for gender-responsive legislation, and foster inclusive governance processes. With a focus on all the 7 Counties, we aim to empower women leaders to drive change and create a more equitable and inclusive society.
Objectives
- Strengthen women leaders’ capacity and influence: Enhance the skills, knowledge, and strategies of women leaders in our focus County to effectively navigate governance processes and influence gender-responsive legislation.
- Foster mentorship and peer support: Facilitate mentorship relationships and create a supportive network among women leaders and community gatekeepers promoting knowledge exchange, collaboration, and mutual empowerment.
- Promote gender equality and inclusive political participation: Raise awareness about the importance of gender-responsive policies, challenge barriers faced by women leaders, and encourage male engagement and allyship to advance women’s leadership and participation in decision-making.
